March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by huge earthquake, the north-east part of Japan was severly damaged by earthquake itself and Tsunami. more than 6000 dead confirmed, and more than 10000 missing. Still, aftershocks continue and people suffer.
At that time, I was on my way to work, and on that day, whole public transportation network stopped, and all the commuters were forced to walk to home, and so was I. And I realilzed that this world is full of functions, when I struggled to determine which way to take to home. Taking subway for example, we only need to know where the train goes, and we don't care how the train goes, and where the train goes under. We just give arguments which is fee or body and etc, the function returns the destination.
The important implication is that advanced society indeed brought about convenience which people became not necessary to know what's going on underneath, but if we see that from different perspective, including the earthquake, we are really weak without that foundation.
I recently feel that my action is automated, because we use so many functions in this society that excludes ambiguity and exception. But sometimes we should think what's going on under the interface of convenience.
